Mechanics — work, rest time and duty view
ETS2 + ATS
Mechanics get going as soon as work stands in the hall: at most two per bay, master mechanics first, 10 hours of work (journeymen 9), then 11 hours of rest. The card “Mechanics on duty” shows who is doing what.

In every workshop — your own, your company's and the dealer's — the mechanics work by the same rules, much like the drivers: if there is work, they get going. If there is nothing to do, they are off. There is no shift plan for this any more.
When work is done#
- A mechanic starts as soon as a truck or trailer with work stands in a bay — at any hour, on every day of the week. That is why the workshop says: “Mon–Sun 0:00–24:00 whenever work is in the hall”.
- Once a job is finished and nothing else is waiting, the mechanic is off.
- Anyone who is ill or on holiday does not work — as before.
Who works at which bay#
- At most two mechanics per bay.
- Every running job first gets one mechanic. If any are still free after that, each bay gets a second one. So if there is only a single job, two mechanics work on it together — and it is finished sooner.
- Master mechanics first, then journeymen: free master mechanics are always assigned before free journeymen.
10 or 9 hours of work, then 11 hours of rest#
- A master mechanic works at most 10 hours at a stretch, a journeyman at most 9 hours. After that he has 11 hours of rest — as long as the drivers — before he takes on the next job.
- While a mechanic rests, another free one takes over — master mechanics first.
- If a mechanic has nothing to do for 11 hours, his working time starts again from zero.
- The “finished approx.” of a repair already includes the rest times. If everyone is resting at the moment, work continues from the end of the first rest time.
So more mechanics do not only mean more hands at a bay, but also: the workshop does not stand still while the others rest.
The card “Mechanics on duty”#
In the workshop, the card “Mechanics on duty” shows at the top how many are working, off, resting, ill or on holiday right now, and below that every mechanic on his own — master mechanics first:
| Line | Meaning |
|---|---|
| “working at bay 1 · 3:20 of 10:00 h” | he is working at bay 1 right now and has already worked 3 hours 20 minutes of his 10 hours (master mechanic) — for a journeyman it says “of 9:00 h” |
| “off” | he has nothing to do right now |
| “resting until 05 Oct 2026 18:15” | he is resting and may work again from then on |
| “ill until …” / “on holiday until …” | he is away until that day |
| “starts on …” | he is hired and starts on that day |
Each bay also shows who is working there right now. The card is in the app and in the browser — for your own workshop and your company's.
The dealer's workshop shows its mechanics the same way: on the dealer overview in the “Workshop” tab and on the homepage under “Live”. Your own workshop and your company's are never shown there.
